Why Won’t a Realtor Just Meet Me at a Property

It’s a question I get all the time, and it’s understandable. You’re interested in a property, you want to take a look, so why can’t you just meet the Realtor there? In this blog post, I’ll explain the reasons.

The first reason has to do with safety. Although most people we meet as Realtors are well-intentioned, there are always a few bad apples in the bunch. Just like any other job that involves meeting new people, there is always the potential for danger when you’re a Realtor.

Meeting with a stranger at an empty property is not something ever recommended, no matter how harmless you think it is. Please don’t take offense when asked to meet at a Real Estate office or public space prior to viewing a property as we’re just trying to stay safe just like you’d want to be, right?

Sometimes we’ve been communicating with you via email, phone or online but a face-to-face meeting prior to you wanting to see a home is always best for both parties. This will give us a chance to see how well we communicate with each other. After all, we’ll be working together closely so it’s important we have good communication. Buying or selling a home is a big decision and finding the right Realtor is an important part of that process. Take your time, do your research, ask plenty of questions, and trust your gut instinct when making your final decision whether to hire a Realtor as we will be doing the same.

The second reason is qualification. Are you qualified to buy this home? Now there is a lot to consider here. You’re asking a homeowner to let you inside their home, an agent to take time to show you the home and we don’t even know if you can afford to buy this home. Let’s say you love this house and then find out you can’t afford it. Why would you want to set yourself up for such a disappointment? This is one of many reasons why we ask you for either a pre-approval letter or proof of funds if you’re paying cash. If you don’t have a pre-approval yet, there are many lenders out there that I can recommend so you can find out first if you’re qualified to purchase this property.

And finally, meeting with me will give you access to my knowledge and expertise. A good Realtor will be able to tell you things about a property that you would never be able to find out on your own, like how long it’s been on the market or whether the sellers are motivated to sell quickly.

Buying or selling a home is an exciting time and I’d love to set up a meeting with you to see if we’d be a good fit to work together.  I can walk you through the process of buying, selling or even doing both at the same time and all your options! Let’s get started today.

I hope this blog post has helped to clear up any confusion about why we can’t just meet you at a property. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
